This is dense ponderosa fire country, so we reduce fuels and pull ladder growth back to Firewise spacing so a fire cannot climb from the forest floor into your roof.
Spruce Mountain Club sits high and forested in the country south of Prescott, near Spruce Mountain in the Groom Creek and Walker area. This is the upper end of the ponderosa belt, cooler and greener than town, where the lots are steep and timbered.
The ground is steep and heavily treed, with granite and thin forest soil over rock. Slope drives everything up here: pads have to be cut into the hill, drives have to hold grade on a mountain, and the tree cover means clearing and fire spacing are front and center on nearly every lot.
Steep, forested, high-elevation lots are where careless site work shows up worst, in slid fill, washed drives, and homes with no defensible space around them. This is fire country, so the contractor who cuts your pad also has to leave the lot safer than he found it.
